About Marcelle

I did this the hard way first

I’ve lived in South Africa, in Florida, in Antibes and in St Martin. Mauritius is the one that stuck.

Marcelle Meijer

My background is a mix of financial services, investment consulting, retail, hospitality, management for a US Fortune 500 company and charity fundraising. That sounds scattered written down, and it probably was, but it left me with two useful things: I can read a business quickly, and I’ve negotiated with enough people to know when someone is being straight with me.

When I got here I found a steady stream of South Africans trying to do this on their own, and a service industry of extremely mixed quality happy to take them on. People were paying twice for the same advice, or once for advice that was wrong. Nobody was sitting in the middle keeping track of who was actually good.

So I started keeping a list. The events came later, because it turned out that introducing people one at a time didn’t scale and a room worked better.

Mauritius WOW Awards 2025

PANACHE Woman of Wonder 2025

At the fourth annual Mauritius WOW Awards I was named PANACHE Woman of Wonder 2025, as Entrepreneur and Overall Winner.

The nomination came from a professional who’d attended our first South African event. That’s the part I’d point at. The award is nice. Being nominated by someone who sat in one of these rooms is the actual evidence.

The line I’m careful about

The people in my network hold the licences. I don’t.

I’m not an immigration consultant, a tax adviser, an estate agent or a financial planner. Those are licensed roles and the people in my network hold those licences. I don’t.

What I do is know them, know which situations each of them is right for, and make the introduction. When I go further than that, on a managed relocation, I’m coordinating licensed people rather than replacing them.

I’m specific about this because the distinction matters legally and because it’s the honest description of the job.

Moving to Mauritius

Come to the next event.

What I’m building is a properly maintained network for people moving to and living in Mauritius.
