Everyone will tell you Mauritius is a good idea.
Almost nobody will tell you who to call.
I’m Marcelle Meijer. I moved from South Africa to Mauritius, made most of the mistakes available, and spent the years since building a network of people who are actually good at this. Three mornings in November, I’m putting that network in a room in Johannesburg and Pretoria.
The research phase has no end
You’ve read the blogs.
You’re in two Facebook groups where the same four questions get asked every week and answered with confidence by people who’ve never done it. Someone gave you the number of an immigration consultant, and you’re not sure whether they’re good or just first.
The information isn’t the problem. There’s plenty of information. The problem is that you can’t tell which of it applies to you, and the cost of getting that wrong is measured in months and rands.
One morning instead of a year of guessing
At an Evolve event you sit in a room with the people who do this work. Not a panel of speakers doing a presentation and leaving. The banker who opens accounts for South Africans. The specialist who files the residency applications. The accountant who handles the tax side. The person who moves your household and your dog.
You ask your actual questions, about your actual situation, and you get answers from people whose names are attached to the answers.
Then you go home with a list of people to call, and you already know which ones are worth calling.

Why me
What I am is the person who has already worked out which of them are good.
I’m not an immigration consultant. I’m not an estate agent or a tax adviser, and I’m careful about that distinction, because the people who are those things are licensed and I’m not.
I’ve lived in South Africa, Florida, Antibes and St Martin, and Mauritius is home now. When I arrived I found a lot of South Africans trying to do this alone, and a lot of service providers of wildly varying quality happy to help them. Evolve exists because someone had to sit in the middle and keep a list.
In 2025 that work was recognised at the Mauritius WOW Awards, where I was named PANACHE Woman of Wonder, Entrepreneur and Overall Winner. The nomination came from someone who’d attended our first South African event, which meant more to me than the award did.

The event is the start, not the service
Some people would rather not.
Most people leave an event with contacts and handle the rest themselves. That’s a perfectly good outcome and it’s what the morning is designed for.
Some people would rather not. If you want someone to run the whole move, from the permit application through to the day the furniture arrives, that’s what the concierge service does.
